  • 14:00 - 15:15 Lecture 1 by Jang Soo Kim
    • Title. Representations of finite groups
    • Abstract. In this lecture, we will review basic representation theory of finite groups. We will start by giving the definition of a representation of a finite group. We will learn basic notions such as irreducible representations, characters, and induced representations.

  • 15:45 - 17:00 Lecture 2 by Jang Soo Kim
    • Title. Representations of symmetric groups.
    • Abstract. In this lecture we study representations of symmetric groups and their connection with symmetric functions. We will see Frobenius formula for the character of an irreducible representation of the symmetric group of order n. As an application of Frobenius formula, we will derive the hook length formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a given shape.
